Support Coach Williams’ Cancer Battle
Chris Williams is a well-respected figure in the cross country and track and field community, known for his dedication to coaching and building a strong, competitive program at Dublin High School. Since taking the helm in 2009, Chris has transformed Dublin’s cross-country and track and field teams into some of the most formidable in California. His leadership has led the boys’ team to a second-place finish at the Clovis Invitational, just behind national powerhouse Great Oak, solidifying Dublin as a top contender at both the state and national levels. One of Chris’s greatest contributions to the sport has been his role in organizing and expanding the Dublin Distance Fiesta, an annual meet that has grown into one of the largest distance-running events on the West Coast. The event now hosts over 250 schools, drawing thousands of students and families who come to compete, cheer, and experience the unique energy that makes the Fiesta special. In fact, last year, two world records were broken at the Dublin Fiesta.

With a fast-paced schedule, music, and a high-energy atmosphere, Chris has turned the meet into more than just a competition—it’s an experience. He has also hosted many other events such as Meet of the Champions, the Fresh/Soph Competition, and various other NCS cross country and track events.
Meeting Amari Jones
In 2022, Chris Williams crossed paths with Amari Jones while working at Dublin High School, and the two quickly formed a strong bond. Recognizing Amari’s ability to connect with students, inspire young athletes, and maintain a positive, engaging environment, Chris invited him to be a key figure in many major cross country and track events. Amari took on an essential role at these meets by managing front gate operations, handling security, greeting families and athletes, and ensuring that each event ran smoothly. This year will be Amari J’s third year in a row doing the Dublin Distance Fiesta. Beyond the logistics, his natural ability to motivate students, build strong relationships with parents, and foster a welcoming atmosphere has made him a trusted leader at these high-profile cross country and track competitions—reinforcing the positive culture Chris has worked so hard to build.

Chris Williams continues to lead one of the most respected cross country and track and field programs in California, and his impact extends far beyond the course and track. Through mentorship, innovation, and a commitment to excellence, he has shaped the future of many athletes and coaches, including those like Amari, who share his vision of inspiring the next generation.
Prayers and Support for Coach Williams
Recently, Coach Williams shared difficult news with the community:
“On February 6, 2025, I was diagnosed with cancer. My latest scan showed no spread, which is good, and we are being aggressive with treatment. While I will still be directing the meet remotely during recovery, please include Dublin High School’s acting head Anne Ha (haanne@dublinusd.org) and Shannon Sos of Diablo Timing (shannon@diablotiming.com) in any correspondence, as they will be co-directing DDF. Thank you for your support and prayers.” – Chris Williams, Dublin Distance Fiesta Meet Director
The Dublin High School Athletic Boosters have stepped forward and launched a GoFundMe campaign to support Chris and his family during this challenging time. If you have the means and want to help, you can find a link to the campaign here (Support Coach Williams’ Cancer Battle). We will share any additional ways to support Chris as they become available. Thank you for keeping him and his family in your thoughts as he starts this fight. — Shannon Sos, Diablo Timing
